Which is already the assumption of pundits far and wide. It's no different than assuming the killer was a black man before knowing the facts.
And that is one of the reasons why the mentally ill are more likely to be VICTIMS of crime than perpetrators of it. Your normal neighbor is just as likely to kill someone (or many) as a person with a mental illness. But not as likely to be a victim of a violent crime as a person with a mental illness.
Interesting how that works.
