returned home.
Have you seen any of the movies about the WWII Black air crews?
Red Tails is one of them. A story about the Tuskegee airman who flew F-16s
to protect the bomber crews who had been under great risk during their missions.
The enemy was shooting them down in great numbers.
The Air Force decided to form a group to protect the bombers and the Red Tails were born.
Black airmen who were extremely brave. They flew their airplanes right next to to the bombers
to and from the target site, at great risk.
Other protective (white) support squadrons would flee from the mission if the danger was too great.
Not the Red Tails, they never left the bombers, never. Unless they were shot down.
They became famous and the white bomber crews specifically asked for them to fly with them on missions.
