In reply to the discussion: How propaganda works to change our expectations of the Democratic Party [View all]bvar22
(39,909 posts)15. "It's time to step back and remind ourselves what this party is supposed to stand for".
That time came and went in 1992 with the "Centrist" Clinton Administration.
THIS is what "DEMOCRATS" stand for.....or used to.
ANYONE who does NOT STAND 100% for these Traditional Democratic Party Values
is something LESS than a Democrat
and unworthy of the lable.
"In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for allregardless of station, race, or creed.
Among these are:
*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;
*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
*The right of every family to a decent home;
*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
*The right to a good education.
All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being." ---FDR. 1944

Please note that FDR specified the above as Basic Human Rights
to be OWNED by The American People and administered by our government OF the American People,
and NOT as Privatized Commodities to be sold to Americans by For Profit Corporations.
There WAS a time, not so long ago, when voting FOR The Democrat
was voting FOR the above values.
Sadly, that is no longer true.
At the time, I hated LBJ with a Purple Passion for the WAR,
but he WAS a Democrat,
and his Great Society programs built upon the Working Class Democratic Values of the New Deal that made our Party GREAT,
and built the largest, wealthiest, and most Upwardly Mobile Working Class the World had ever seen.
THAT was a time of HOPE and PRIDE because we were moving in the right direction.
NOW....pfft.
I never though I would ever say that LBJ was our last Democratic President,
but THERE IT IS.
Obama says he'd be seen as moderate Republican in 1980s

Move Over, Old Dog.
You are no longer the Best Republican President EVER.
"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans.
I want a party that will STAND UP for Working Americans."

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their rhetoric, promises, or excuses.
