One gun story that didn't deeply touch my life: A neighbor of ours shot her boyfriend in the leg during an argument. They don't live there anymore. It freaked out the neighbor across the street so much he put up a surveillance camera to watch that house in case the owner rented it to other "unstable" people. Most of the people who have lived there have been nice, even the woman who shot her boyfriend. It's too bad the gun she had for "protection" screwed up her life like that.
I've never heard a first hand story of someone shooting "bad guys" who wasn't police or military.
In my neighborhood people break into houses and steal guns, even entire gun safes, when the owner isn't home. We've got a bad gang problem in our city and those kids are not stupid except when they are shooting each other.
