(1,989 posts)I am sorry about USM and the residents down south. I'm in North Miss and it's already been an interesting year. As for Oxford being MS only island of sanity, I really don't think one place owns the title. Rather, there are individual people who become islands of sanity.
The same person I disagree with on politics, I can later agree with on sports. As a Mississippian, some days I hate the south. But, I find it genuinely hard to dislike the people. Some days it takes more work than others, but I try to look really hard to find common ground.
I don't really like the idea of an America divided into little divisive camps...republicans, democrats, liberals, conservatives, tea party people. It becomes so easy to denigrate instead of finding common values and solutions.
The only people who seem to benefit from this sorry state of affairs are politicians and the modern day news media, who gave up on telling us the news ages ago.
