Life of Pi?

Seriously, would anyone care about that if it hadnt been nominated in place of several movies that were 10x more successful in ticket sales?

Why do so many people assume sales have no bearing on the ability of a movie to entertain, which is usually what movies are supposed to be about, isnt it?

How about the last Bond movie, where the bad guy was touted as being a worthy nomination for Supporting Actor when it came out, yet it was obvious that idea would go nowhere just because of the successful nature of the 007 franchise, thats one small example.
