In reply to the discussion: Saying goodbye to Buster. A good little dog. [View all]No Vested Interest
(5,166 posts)We had three standard dachsies- in succession.
The last, Polly, was the real love of our family. She was a champion show dog, reddish-brown, but her owners decided not to breed her because her hips were narrow and it would have been too hard on her.
Polly would crawl up around my neck on the den sofa, when she heard thunder. Afraid of the vacuum sweeper noise, and maybe even just the sweeper itself.
She went to a live-in dog-sitter when we traveled, and the sitter would send us an account of how dear and well-behaved she was.
She did occasionally tinkle on a rug when she was anxious when company came, but we forgave her for she was so sweet.
Eventually her hips and legs could not hold her, even to relieve herself outside. She was about 12 yrs.
W were to leave on a trip within a few days and knew a decision had to be made.
I'll never forget that dachsie look in her eyes as spouse and son took out the door to the vet.
Sorry for you SS. She gave you comfort, and you gave much to her.
Know that this is the right thing.
Peace.
