They gerrymandered, and lied, and dissembled, and distracted, and spun. And it all worked depressingly well. They've dominated political discourse in this country to the point where the overton window now lies far, far to the right of what it used to.

You can't fake reality forever, but you can do it for a long time, and do a horrific amount of damage.
