(4,569 posts)63. Tarmac melting or tires melting because of weight distribution friction
When a plane takes off or lands, it produces heat friction on the tires it sits on, depending on the weight of the aircraft and the outside temperature.......the calculation of weight distribution of an aircraft and the heat buildup on the tarmac is only good to 118 degrees.......so it's not a matter of whether a plane will get stuck on the tarmac.......it's just that the guidelines for it happening are only calculated to 118 degrees..........the airport has to do any other calculations by hand.......so they close takeoffs/landings at the airport just to be safe.

OP
It's 15 miles to my work. But it's also another 15 miles to my GFs house.

High of 72 here for Saturday. But I live a block from Lake Michigan so it'll be 62 at home.

I have never understood why people in the Phoenix area complain about the heat.

That's good. You're not like the idiots who decide to climb Camelback and get stuck.

My guess is that the tarmac becomes excessively pliable at such high temperatures.

True...I was thinking of circumstances in which low humidity wouldn't help

Can you move? I'm considering moving when I semi-retire, because of the heat.
