You're right about that. I think that as we have the opportunity to freely exchange any ideas, criticisms and/or dialog about our own governments-- on a message board viewed by tens of thousands across both the nation and the planet without fear of being legally silenced, prosecuted or persecuted for it, we're doing a lot better than we often give ourselves credit for.
However this year, my major thanks are on a personal level-- I have a job I don't dread waking up to, I was notified of another raise effective at the beginning of the year, I had the opportunity to buy my mother a gift she's been wanting her entire adult life, and one of my oldest and best friends will be staying at my apartment for the Thanksgiving weekend, where we'll catch up, watch movies, go out to dinner with friends, and enjoy some much needed time off.
