(20,849 posts)I had no "real" idea what that was growing up except I knew one thing, I had no "real" love for Ronald Reagun.
That is how it is when you have a disabled sibling sucking the family resources dry. There is no time for YOU, lowly YOU. Thank you for that Ronald Reagun.
I know of many young people that I think are fine young folks indeed and these sort of stigmas/stereotypes that are plain unfair!
I'll present the case of a young man that I hired recently to help my husband re-build a fence that he'd built himself about 10 years ago with no instructions, only some wood, nails and his bare hands.
This young man has a good recommendation from the local hardware store (said to be the hardest worker in the county). He was glad to get the job but he told me straight up that he charged $15.00 an hour and no less. He said he'd work as hard as he could and I believed him and gave him the job.
When time came to pay, he charged me in dollar and cents I'll have you know, no rip-off from him, not even a few cents!
I paid him and told him, "May the force be with you!. It is young folks like you that are a tribute to YOUR generation". He was very proud to hear my remarks and told me that if we ever needed any help, etc. to call him and he'd be right over (he lives close by luckily).
That is what you call being a decent, responsible PERSON. It has not a lot to do with his age IMO. Needless to say, I'd hire this young man (he has a B.A. in psychology mind you) again and told him I'd write him a letter of recommendation for any job should he need it.
He won't be needing it however. He is a hard worker and smart as a whip and I seriously doubt he'd ever need such a thing as the "force" is already with him I would say!
to young folks like this young man. They are our future after all and I thank god for each them.
