(2,322 posts)what Boomer really means. Not even Boomers. Do you know how many Boomers were born in the Boomer years between 1946-1964?
76 million. That's a lot of people to categorized under not only one name, but one personality. And not all grew up in the suburbs with the American dream. Remember LBJ's aim to end poverty. Meaning there was still a lot of it in 1964; so a lot of Boomers grew up poor and hungry with parents working low paying jobseven during the economically prosperous 50's. I think those understand you perfectly. And then there were the Boomers born on the later end (like President Obama). They were about your age during the economic downturn of the 70's when the economy tanked and jobs were hard to come by. Again. I think they understand.
Of those of who did grow up in the suburbs, got that education, and found jobs...well. I think most on this website have, like me, spent the last thirty years frustrated, angry and fighting the slow destruction we've been seeing of America's position as a science and engineering leader (thus depriving all those ph.d's of jobs in *this* country), the outsourcing of American jobs and the destruction of small American businesses and the undermining of unions.
None of what has been left to you happened right away. It was slow, it was malicious, it was intentional, it was unrelenting, in many cases there was trickery, lies, deceit, sabotage (election of 2000 anyone?). Sometimes even those we voted for and trusted betrayed us. We here, of that generation and the next, did not want this for our country, please believe that. Finally, for all that Boomers are associated with the liberal hippie years, most are not so liberal. G.W. Bush was a Boomer. Which is to say: by all means, say to us what you need to say, we'll listen. But you need to understand that the Boomers who caused this situation, prospered from it, or voted for those who caused it and now vote for those who are making it worse...those Boomers, sadly, aren't on this website to hear or understand anything you have to say.
