(32,017 posts)And it's creating some serious problems. Actually, there's still hope for the Millennials and the generation that follows them, if we can turn our politics around, but hope is rapidly fading for Generation X. Many of us are in our 40s now, and we're still struggling. Most of us can't amass any wealth. Most of us can't get any economic security. If we can't get a decent, good-paying job very soon that we can then hold for ten or more years (so that we actually get something decent out of Social Security), we're done for. Many of us can't even buy used cars for our teen-aged children. The idea of putting them through college is enough to keep many of us up at night. If we were still young, there might be more hope. But we're not ... we're middle-aged and broke. Our parents were much better off when they were our age.
I still feel that many Boomers just don't get it. You did not have times like this in the 1980s. Pretending like this is a temporary problem that is anything like what the Boomers managed to endure seems calloused and ignorant to me. Things are much worse now, and I thank you for acknowledging that fact, but my generation is about to become un-employable (because we're too old). But we're still broke (many of us, anyway) ...
Sorry to take out a little frustration on you. You don't really deserve it. I think you meant well, and I do appreciate your post.
