(8,303 posts)Union labor may be expensive, but it is worth it to me to have it done well for such jobs. The additional cost with the guarantee of the job being done right is very definitely worth it. I'd rather pay the true cost than get it done cheap and have to do the job three times and pay thousands to mitigate the damage that lack of skill caused.
But the governments of the world have adopted the philosophy that driving labor costs down is the key to having a good economy, It's the Chinese model, but the Chinese model isn't even working for the Chinese. And the corporations have taken over and are telling the government that what they need is an influx of very cheap labor.
When we valued skilled labor and paid it well, we got skilled labor, pride in workmanship and good quality work. Now our society is fraying a bit at the seams.
