Let me speculate: Z's father is a retired magistrate judge, most likely respected in the LE community. They're trying to spare the old man and they needed the time to get stories straight, time for Z to pack up his stuff and get out of town. If his father is contributing to his hiding out, he is as culpable as the police department. I'm thinking all of this is to protect the judge and this is how the judge wanted it to go down, hoping it would all die down in a week or so. Now that the Feds are on it, this will all change shortly. As I stated I'm speculating but I do know a lot of old CYA people and this is the SOP...
