In reply to the discussion: Funeral director: No injuries on Trayvon’s hands [View all]JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)81. Some doctors study gunshot wounds even when they are in medical school.
They study them to know a long-range from a short-range wound, etc. I suppose they need to know that in order to be sure to treat a patient with a gun-shot wound correctly.
And of course, no autopsy on a patient who is still alive. (Sorry for the insensitive humor here.)
So, someone who was trained to handle gunshot wounds (such as a paramedic) may have been able to tell a lot about the injury. But then it depends on the training of the medical personnel and their experience.
If someone works in the emergency room of a big city, say Los Angeles or New York, they probably see a lot of gunshot wounds and know pretty quickly what they are dealing with.

Did they even do an autopsy? If justice doesn't prevail I hate to think of what will happen

I think any time someone dies by gunshot it automatically requires an autopsy. Sadly,

Well, true. I remember the unpleasant experience of reading my dad's. I never want to see one again.
