(31,221 posts)liberal has been elected to the White House in decades. And it's probably the reason there will never be again. When people get a close up look at what most people consider extremists, they run away in horror. You only have to look at the EPIC fail this weekend to see that notion in action.
Whether it be the left or the right, when reasonable people drill down into their hardcore (unmoveable) ideological stances, they come away with the sense that they've just interacted with someone who may or may not be completely hinged. It's the reason the "liberal" label became a four letter word for so long. People who don't hold these uncompromising extreme views, or who they deem centrists, are obviously seen as traitors.
The good news is that internet liberalism doesn't run the Democratic Party or POTUS, and that seems to be a major bone of contention for some. President Obama, and his supporters, can take comfort in the fact that it's the same clueless band of fellow travelers over & over & over again.
I'm not talking about folks who have the occasional criticism of a policy position, but the ones who take issue with EVERYTHING he does, or doesn't do. When the POTUS consistently has 80%-85% job approval from liberals, you can't take the backwash seriously.
