(10,745 posts)All of what you have posted are very real examples of institutional racism (and police corruption) in action. But not of white "privilege". Is it really a "privilege" to not be gunned down by cops just because of what one looks like? I know that you and I probably agree that it's a NORMAL right that everyone should have. But when people hear of that as a "privilege", they think that we're saying that such things ought to happen to everyone else, even if that's the opposite of what we're really trying to say. And that's a big part of my point!
For a comparison, I recall a very recent article by Elizabeth Segran on the (very liberal, btw) New Republic site on how certain actions and slogans of honestly
well-intentioned radical theorists are actually hurting, more than helping, the cause of activism in feminism. It's an interesting read:

And many of the same things that this veteran activist pointed out here, can also be said of the Social Justice Movement as well.
