(34,060 posts)When MIRT starts out out from the first day of membership suspecting someone is a troll or a zombie, it isn't hard for MIRT to find an excuse to PPR the poster - even when (as happened several times when I was on MIRT), individual MIRT members state their opposition to a hasty PPR. There were a number of times when I specifically opposed banning someone, and asked to be given time to review the posts, and the member was banned almost immediately. Sometimes by MIRT members who deliberately ignored my (and others') requests to wait - and other times because the person doing the banning never checked for open discussion threads before unilaterally issuing a PPR.
So looking at the stats of who ended up being banned would prove nothing more than that those who were suspicious got their way.
I find the practice of assuming that someone is a troll until proven otherwise offensive - so my goal is raising the issue whenever I see the assumption is to remind people that this is an open forum - anyone who is not a member can still see nearly everything general members can see (ATA and hidden posts being the exception). There are no secrets - so it should be no surprise (or cause for suspicion) if someone who joined yesterday happens to know things that happened last year.
