(38,304 posts)I was shopping at the Grocery Outlet one day (I'm not wealthy) and I'd previously thrown a dollar and some change on the passenger seat of my car. When I came out of the store I saw a woman, obviously homeless and not quite "all there" repeatedly pushing her hand against the window of my car.
In my most non-threatening manner I asked if I could help her.
She said, "I'm trying to get that money."
But then she looked me over, realized it was my car, saw my full shopping cart and the keys I was holding in my hand, and she ran away.
There was nothing I could do at that point to make the situation better.
I've been a sucker a few times helping people out, but most of the time it's been people who need help.
I'd like to live in a society that didn't abandon people to the streets, no matter how messed up they are.
