(35,619 posts)Is a great idea, and I'm going to do it, too. I could have used it recently.
The other night I went into a supermarket on my way home from work. In the parking lot, an older woman came up to me. She was using a cane and she was holding some nice looking bananas. She told me she was hungry and asked if I could help. She said, and the tone of voice bothered me more than anything, that "a sandwich would be nice." The tone of voice sounded like she was going to cry. I was thinking that maybe rejection made her think no one was going to help. Someone, at least, gave her the bananas, but who would want to have three bananas for dinner? Certainly not me.
I'm in the store and because it was late, there were no sandwiches. I settled for a loaf of bread and some cold cuts. I was able to find a few mayo packets at the salad bar.
Go outside--can't find her anywhere.
Now, if I'd a CARE package, I could have given her something right on the spot.
