8. Does anyone know if Obama wrote more about the incident?

Not sure if he is talking about the "pain" he received (of being different) or the pain he inflicted.

The start of it reminded me of when I would see a former high school classmate in college. Didn't matter how bright we were, how well we spoke the language, we were still "stupid hillbillies" because of our accent. So we generally tried to avoid each other not wanting to accentuate our differentness.

It is easy to empathize with the pain Obama and Coretta shared. But "suddenly Correta was running faster, faster and faster, until she disappeared from sight. Appreciative laughs rose around me," sounds like it is leading up to guilt over the pain he inflicted. Particularly with the teachers showing up right then so he couldn't do anything about it right that moment.
