5. There are some scary parallels from that time to today!

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. -JFK

The 60s were a time of great hope. There was a lot of positive energy moving; but, that was all crushed down.

The people who gave us hope were murdered: JFK, MLK, Bobby, Malcom. Peaceful demonstrators were beaten down in the South and in Chicago and shot at Kent State.

A movement that started out positive turned negative.

Now, there's a resurgence of what can be called both progressive and populist. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and others have given us a reason for real hope - again! The energy is moving - again!

If the establishment - including the establishment controlling the Democratic party - crushes all that hope down again; things could turn ugly. A lot of what's motivating peaceful activism now is sublimated anger, anger at inequality, injustice, racist killings in the black community by cops, gun violence. If there is no positive channel, that anger could be displaced into violence again; of course, that would give the establishment 'justification' for a real crackdown.
