8. Interesting.. thanks for sharing.

Kick & Recommend.

No we haven't made nearly enough progress in the past 40 years and I'm seeing a sort of resurgence being played out in Oakland currently. There is a tendency to presume cointelpro tactics and infiltration of groups like Black Bloc and other groups who seem to believe the only way to deal with socio-economic-racial injustice is by use of random violence and blockades of entrances to Medical facilities/Hospitals/emergency access which happened in Oakland on May 1st.

I was outraged at the senselessness and stupidity employing such strategy as an expression of protest.. as it happens my family was directly impacted during a medical emergency situation and was unable to gain entrance to emergency facilities, under extremely dire life and death circumstances. I voiced my criticism here on du in posts celebrating these actions and was astonished at the backlash.

It didn't work in the 60's and it won't work now.

Another misnomer people seem to continue to believe is that our protests in the 60's ended the Vietnam War. That simply isn't the case. Although I strongly believe in public demonstration as a means to protest our collective grievances and to make our collective voices heard (indeed have participated in many of them over the years) I have no illusions that demonstrations alone makes a whit of difference in the minds of the powers that be.

It does impact the thinking of the 99% however so long as they are peaceful.

Once violence is employed we immediately lose the argument and more to the point, we lose allies.

I will add this book to my reading list, following Naomi Klein's new one: This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate

Thanks again, and please forgive me for digressing. You've provided some interesting points of reference wrt the history of the weather underground, and weathermen .. i picked up on how certain elements seem to be manifesting currently..I hope I'm mistaken. I suppose I really don't want to regard these people as Leftists as I do not share their strategies and rational for it whatsoever, though I too can understand why. And perhaps that's my shortcoming.

Yes, I'm sensitive to any connection. Something for me to think about I suppose.
