without regulation, they can extract the benefits of a process that pollutes without paying the costs of pollution because there's no mechanism for the victims of their pollution to charge them for it. certainly not beforehand, and afterwards it is very complicated and of course they fight that through "tort reform".

they also know that the market doesn't value risk properly and that people were content to be in cars without safety belts for a long time because they didn't understand the risks and didn't properly charge carmakers for making unsafe vehicles.

THIS is the bulk of how the super-rich make their money. NOT from providing honest goods at and honest price for an honest profit.
