"Turning this murder into a gun control dog-and-pony show minutes after the shooting because you can't make sense of what just happened is ridiculous."

People don't say "Turning this crash into a discussion of air safety is ridiculous" or "Turning this spill into a discussion of pipeline safety is ridiculous". Those things are exactly what people want to discuss, and should discuss, at those times.

What they're doing is practically the definition of Orwellian. They're turning logic on its head. For anything else, tragedies engender discussion on how to prevent such things.

But for guns... no, that's special somehow... logic and commonsense don't apply. You should postpone those discussions until emotions have calmed down and the public has moved onto other things. Which, by the way, is very convenient to the gun lobby.

Gun nuts and gun lobbyists are selfish antisocial monsters. nt onehandle Aug 2015 #1
