is also the party that supports taking in refugees. The folks who oppose taking in refugees - republicans - are also the least likely to promote government policies to help our homeless.

The pattern seems to revolve around compassion. If one has it for one group, one tends to have it for both - like Democrats. If one lacks compassion for one group, one tends to lack if for the other - republicans.
