Apparently, by starting some issue with your neighbor, you have proven yourself not to be an atheist, but an activist acting as an atheist. A true atheist doesn't give a shit as to who does what, since they view any religion as a sham, not believing in a higher power. If you are not an atheist, why the intollerance with other religions?
So they put out a mat, so it might be against the property management codes, it's not your job to be the police over this matter. If it bothers you, take it to property management for them to follow-up on. Put out something of your own, if you want to 'get back at them' or to 'get them to stop.'
I'll give you a classic example, from a guy at work:
His neighbor built an in-ground pool that changed the runoff so it began to flood their backyard. He went back and forth with them for a year, then finally, in the spring, he mounted several bird feeders and filled them with wildberries. The birds would take the berries, fly into the guys swimming pool to dunk them and drink, then shit all over his concrete and in the pool, wild berry shit that stained everything. Within weeks, the guy came to him complaining and he said he'd take them down when the runoff issue was addressed. Two weeks after that, the guy complied.
That's how you passive-aggressively deal with types that annoy. Leaving notes is confrontational.
