campaign event against a woman's charge that he was a Muslim who couldn't be trusted, he did not address or call her out on her racism. Republicans know their supporters well. Whether or not Republican candidates believe the shit they spew, they have to spew it to attract votes. There is literally no statement a candidate could make that would be too racist for the Republican base. Trump is merely appealing to their considerable hatred and bigotry, and they're lapping it up.
