Even if you combine all the cable news/commentary outlets into one big number, that number is still smaller than the audience for any one of the three network newscasts. Yes. While political junkies on DU watch those cable outlets, most Americans never do. That is a fact.
318,000,000 Americans. Regular cable programming is lucky to get 3 million watching, very lucky. Most of the time they hover at and under one million, some of the shows DU thinks are 'popular' have just a few hundred thousand viewers. Last week The Wiz got 11.5 million. Morning Joe gets 400,000.
NBC Nightly News last week averaged 9.8 million viewers, CBS about 8.9 and ABC 8.3 million. It was SB shooting big news week. Fox had the big cable numbers with average 4 million viewers, CNN 3.14 million viewers. So we add Fox and CNN to get 7.14 million, a sum less than any single broadcast news show. Combined CNN and Fox don't even beat ABC.
So sure they have an audience but it is not 'most people' by any stretch.
