I think he is a crafty son of a bitch and you make a serious error of judgement if you write him off as a simple buffoon.

It's been shown over and over again that probably the majority (unfortunately) of the electorate responds to these simple uncomplicated nonsensical statements that tap into their not well thought out phobias and prejudices.
