It is so painful to hear stories of hate towards them.
On the radio today, a caller told Michelangelo Signoreli that the day after inauguration in 2009, a coworker got up and announced that the nation couldn't heal until someone "shoots that n***** in the head." The caller took the racist aside to get a feel for his intent. He realized it wasn't a threat, per se, but he called the Secret Service anyway. The SS picked up the racist and grilled him for several hours, but they couldn't arrest him without a threat.
I'm so grateful that we've come far enough to elect a Black man, twice, to the highest office, and nominate a brilliant woman to run as leader of our party for the same. But these assholes, spewing hate and violence, having no shame, take the air out of me. Then I realize we are still a nation of ignorant, hate-filled people.
