1. I feel sorry for those women who have no choice

Setting aside the women who cover up so completely out of choice, which is perhaps the majority...
The fact is that there are also plenty of women who cover up because of their "conservative" fathers, uncles, brothers, or husbands who threaten or intimidate them.

I've always felt sorry for them -- the ones afraid of honor killings, the ones afraid of being kidnapped and taken back to more restrictive countries -- just as I feel sorry for those women in America who have abuaive, jealous spouses or boyfriends that want to control where they go or what friends they have or who they talk to on the telephone.

But now I have another reason to feel sorry for them --- they won't be able to go to simply go sit and enjoy the beach. Because for some of these women, they simply will be forced to stay home. And having grown up happily with the soul-enriching peace of nearby beaches, that is a big reason to feel sorry for them.

Why do so many problems -- in this case, a crazy hateful man committing mass murder -- end up with further repression of women?
