In reply to the discussion: Hillary might lose Ohio [View all]aaaaaa5a
(4,667 posts)36. Ohio doesn't matter. 270 does. We don't need Ohio to get to 270.
I will substitute NC for OH any day. They are similar in electoral college votes but NC is young, educated, diverse and growing. OH is old, non-diverse, non-educated and dying. When the next census comes out OH will be losing electoral power. NC will be gaining. The idea that OH is the "end all/be all" is no longer true. That's outdated thinking. OH was not a requirement for us to hit 270 in 2008 or 2012. Its just another battle ground state. A state we DO NOT NEED to retain the White House.
Maybe we could talk about how Missouri is the "show me state." And that Missouri always votes with the Presidential winner. Remember that one?
Or maybe we can discuss how Democratic Presidential candidates will never win in the South. Have you seen our status in VA and NC? I can also tell you that SC and GA are not nearly as far behind as people think. By 2020 or 2024 we can win there too.
Bottom line, don't worry about OH. Its a must win for the GOP. Its not a must win for us.

The southern part is basically West Virginia and Kentucky, culturally.

I think Ohio will come through for her. Coal minors aren't the only people who vote.

Coal miners need to accept that their industry is dying. We need to find them new jobs.
