Though it's sensationalized for its expose into the meat-packing industry, Sinclair's 'The Jungle' is more an expose into the world of boss politics and vote-buying. In chapter eleven of the book, a rather eloquent reason for not having a certifiable receipt or proof of one's vote is given.
