(9,760 posts)by so many that we need to "listen to" the Trump voters and change our message to appeal to them.
No, we don't. I already have listened to them. I know what they think. And so do most DUers. I loved my grandparents, but I found it very difficult from an early age to respect them. They were closed-minded, uneducated, fundamentalist, superstitious, homophobic, bigoted, racist, and in my grandfather's case a bully. They had four children. My mom was the only one to truly reject that "heritage." The other three children, their spouses, and their children are all RWers.
The only way the Democratic party would have won any of their votes would have been to indulge the prejudices and ignorance of these people. And if the Democratic party had done that, they would have lost my mom and dad, most of my siblings, my husband and millions and millions of progressive Democrats.
I don't believe many DUers actually believe every single Trump voter is evil. What we do believe is that they have elevated to the highest office in the land, and world, a crass, homophobic, misogynistic, lying, cheating, intemperate, business-bankrupting, ill-prepared, unstatesmanlike, boor, and that they must take responsibility for that vote.
There is no question that a lot of suffering and misery will befall countless Americans. A wish for those responsible for electing such an ill-suited, war-mongering, benefits-slashing cretin to shoulder a large share of that guaranteed suffering and misery does not seem at all unfair or unreasonable to me.
