In reply to the discussion: Al Franken/Sherrod Brown ticket in 2020 is a dream ticket for Democrats. [View all]ChoppinBroccoli
(3,784 posts)1. Do you really think Sherrod Brown would agree to being on a Presidential ticket? He is my absolute favorite lawmaker in Washington (not only because he's MY Senator and is from my hometown and my dad knew his mom, but because he's a liberal Democrat who FIGHTS), but I heard a rumor that his wife threatened to divorce him if he ran for President. So that would rule him out for either spot on the ticket. Don't get me wrong, I would gladly break my back trying to get him elected if he ever ran, but I just don't think he will.
2. Can Al Franken really win? I would love it so much if he became President (imagine the speeches he would give!), but with the rampant Antisemitism we're seeing all over the country right now, do you really think it's realistic for a Jew to win? I've always said that Antisemitism was what sunk Al Gore in 2000 (having Lieberman on the ticket was a lead weight around his ankle for MANY reasons, but the antisemitic vote was one big one). I mean, I know we're now a country that will elect celebrities for reasons that have nothing to do with their ability to actually lead this country (not saying Franken isn't capable, but he will be branded "just another Hollywood liberal celebrity" by the RW), but do you really think Al Franken could win? I would back him 100% if I thought his chances were realistic, but right now, after what I've seen lately, I don't know if they are.
