(17,984 posts)I think there are some who voted for Li'l Donnie for no other reason than they felt obligated to do so. When everyone around you, your friends, family, and coworkers, all support an obviously unqualified candidate, the easiest solution is to play along. Call it weakness of character. Call it giving in to peer pressure. Call it herd instinct. Call it whatever you want. A heck of a lot of these people will admit to being low information voters. Again, it's easier just to agree with everyone around you and not take the time to investigate the facts.
While I agree that there are many among them who do not deserve our admiration for realizing that they shit on all of America and themselves, I do think there ought to be some measure of leniency for those who truly want to change. If these people receive nothing but vitriol from us and ostracism from their erstwhile compatriots, we lose their support. At this point, we need all the support we can muster for town halls, protests, and writing letters to congress.
Don't even ask me how I plan to "test" everyone's allegiance; I have no idea. I'm simply asking for a little wiggle room for those who have seen the light, are willing to educate themselves, and want to join the cause.
