(11,481 posts)I don't mistake center to center-right sources for "left" and nobody else should either. If you do, you're just buying into the political spectrum that the right wing WANTS you to buy into. They are "normalizing" what once were considered extreme position and politicians, which makes ACTUAL moderate seem far left. Reagan was a right-winger and actually on the far right, but compared to the current administration he would look like a "moderate" is an example of this effect.
And polarization works both ways. The DSA (looking at your username here) has seen its membership triple in two or three months and there's a similar rise in memberships of all leftist organizations. But that's among the population and NOT the news media. That's still VERY right wing. Even "left" MSM is pretty conservative.
