In another time and another election, MItt Romney would be toast. [View all]

He would either be asked to withdraw or he would suffer a defeat of Goldwater proportion.

But this is now and the art of propaganda has reached heights unseen in history. The majority of states are split down the middle, with half going to Obama and half going to Romney. There are probably only 6 or 8 states that are actually in play this coming election?

By historical standards, this election should be a landslide for Obama. But it is a toss-up. In any other time, where one candidate had shipped American jobs overseas and had secret accounts in foreign countries and refused to release his tax returns, it would have been an automatic disqualification or defeat. But we play this game by different rules now.

With 24-hour per day manipulation of talk radio and a timid television media, the rules have changed to the point where policies, principles, and even character, do not matter. It is like the old-time wrestling where one wrestler has a bar of soap hidden in his trunks but there is no referee to catch him. He uses it whenever he wants.

When the rules change, we must learn to change our tactics. Republicans have perfected their propaganda system. They may even win the next election with Mitt Romney as their candidate. Democrats must develop a new strategy to cope with this new reality. Common sense and moderation simply will not work with today's voters. We must fight the battle on their ground.

It is no place for the faint of heart. How do you battle this new propaganda? In my opinion, we need a plan for psychological warfare. We need to discourage and demoralize their supporters. They cannot win without their army of lemmings. How do we do that? I am open to suggestions.
