Unpopular opinion: Confederate statues are a shiny object to distract us from more concrete issues [View all]

including all forms of racism, including both structural and subjective bigotry.

There's a not-insubstantial segment of the population that (1) genuinely abhors racism but (2) does not agree that confederate statues/monuments are per se evil.

When Tr*mp wants to talk about statues, he's trying to show that group of people that they agree with him, when in fact they do not share his white nationalism.
