(54,770 posts)37. All I can tell you is that in the 1950s and early 1960s there was a guy
who used to run for office -- even for governor -- in my state. He swore he wasn't a racist, but his speeches were filled with phrases like "N_____ and J___s." To this day, I do not feel comfortable using the work "J__," because of that bigot. I know it is acceptable, but it just seems derisive to me because of the hatred I heard from him and others. I always say something like "Jewish people," even when it is somewhat awkward.
Here's his photo. This guy used to swear he was not a racist, right up until they hauled him off to jail for bombing a Black church in Birmingham -- I never believe someone with a confederate flag who says they aren't a bigot:

It' is just a bunch of racists. Anybody with any pigment in their outer layer....
