No disrespect to Petty (it was never his intent with this song), but if one were to choose a song of his to reference the tragedy in Las Vegas, where a gun-hoarding psychopath used automatic weaponry to murder dozens and maim hundreds of innocent people—and in which the issue of desperately needed sensible gun laws is being discussed, one would not choose lyrics with the repeated refrain:

I'll stand my ground

I mean, really, given how distasteful all the Stand Your Ground laws are in the discussion of gun violence and gun culture in this country, is that what you would choose?

I was revolted. (Plus, what a weak voice.)
