17. In the early nineties,

I attended a function in the Russell Senate Office Building. I was in charge of the guest book. When Strom Thurmond walked up, I greeted him and had him sign the book. While we waited for a staff member to show up, we chatted . . . and he patted my butt.

I took one step away and turned to face him to chat. I figured I could walk a whole lot faster than a 90-something-year-old man.
