Mentioning that he worked that case would probably piss off some white male Alabamans who would have done the bombing themselves. Or knew who did it and were keeping quiet. People don't like it when you bring up the past. It only gives closure to the relatives of the dead girls, and a sense of justice to the black community. It definitely won't win the white Alabama voters.

There have to be other things in his favor that don't bring up black/white issues.
