If you want to keep up, I would suggest following some lesser-known-but-still-legit reporters. You don't need to follow many as reporters tend to tweet @ and about each other. Try to follow at least one reporter that covers your state or town.
Also, follow a few comedians because, as above, if you follow one, you follow them all.
Follow a Twitter account that's wacky or esoteric-ish like @ProBirdRights or @billwurtz because strange is good for the soul.
If you want to know what the Orange Man tweets but can't stand him, follow @RealPressSecBot - an account that takes his tweets and posts them as if they were press releases.
My most important suggestion is to create a Twitter list or two. That way, you don't have to read all the tweets from all the users you follow - just the ones that really interest you. You can change the members of your list whenever it suits you.
For example, I follow Malcolm Nance but, frankly, his tweets are too fucking depressing and he posts too often, so, he's not on one of my lists.
