(4,113 posts)I'm surrounded by many such people who own or manage the business started by their father or grandfather. If the business is in good shape, they act like it's all because of them, like the efforts of their parents or grandparents to start up and run the business was not a factor. They act like the success of the business is all because of them. Quite honestly, I don't know what these people would be doing today if they didn't inherit the business and the job that came with it.
Never mind that the business was started by their parents or grandparents when tax rates were higher. Funding from federal or state aid was more plentiful then, and most of them took advantage of it. If they served in the military, the GI Bill certainly didn't hurt them either.
It's the classic Ann Richards line about being born on third base and acting like they hit a triple.
