for many years. And the abuse continued. It continued with me, and with other children in the neighborhood. She didn't care. She was blinded by...something? I don't know what, he was uneduacated, chronically incarcerated, unemployed sex offender....

I have to say that being sexually assaulted was horrible, but the betrayal by someone who was supposed to care for you and defend you was far worse.

It's been 20 years, and I've gotten over the abuse. I've not, nor do I think I'll ever, get over the absolute betrayal of trust by my mother, and her "oh well, you didn't turn out to be a prosititute, a junkie, or a dropout, and the fact that you're happy, well-adjusted, financially stable means that everything is okay in the end" attitude really cinches it for me.
