In reply to the discussion: Jimmy Carter hospitalized after collapsing while working on Habitat for Humanity house [View all]TNNurse
(6,926 posts)59. I am well aware of the determination of someone who reaches those ages.
There is a lot of stubborn used to live that long.
I took care of a gentleman in his 80s who fell out of the top of his barn and broke his neck. He was not paralyzed but had a halo brace on. Initially his daughter thought that the nurses were judging her for letting him get hurt like that. I asked her if he climbed up there by himself, he did. I then asked her if she kept him tied in a chair at home and she laughed and said no. If he could get up there by himself, what could she do????
I do understand. The thought of living in a world without Jimmy Carter is tough for me.

It's funny, isn't it, how greatness may come at different times in a person's life.
