I was an Air Force brat and was with a friend when her feverish little brother had to go to the ER. It was when they let kids stay in cars alone more readily so we sat there for a long time waiting. A storm came up and the mother dashed across the parking lot carrying the little guy. But retreat started, and some irate jackass officer made the woman stop and stand there with her sick child until it finished and then several minutes more while he lambasted her.

It did nothing for our patriotic fervor.
